Hurricane Sandy, Tubbs Fire, Palisades Fire. Chaos erupted when it happened, but who still talks about them?
One night last October in New York City, with my window open, I was suddenly reminded of my experiences at home in 2020 amid the Glass Fire that flared up in Northern California: smoky air, orange skies, and N95 masks on the walk back from school. What concerned me was not just the source of the smell but my jarring realization that my two worlds, California and New York City, were converging.
In 25 years, California will be drowned or burned to ashes.
In 25 years, New York will be drowned or burned to ashes.
In 25 years, many other states and countries will be drowned or burned to ashes.
We all know climate change is happening. We see and feel it, despite its consistent denial.
If no one will acknowledge that our world is dying, I might as well show it.
